The main emphasis in this parable is on “watchfulness.” We are to be in a state of continual readiness for the Lord to call us to Himself at the Rapture. The parable then goes on to speak about the Wedding Supper of the Lamb. Let’s make a start: verse 35 and the beginning of verse 37 says: “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.”
The owner of the house has gone out to a wedding and knows that he will be very late coming home. He doesn’t want his servants to go to bed in his absence. Instead, he wants the light of his home to be burning and his servants keeping a diligent watch over his possessions in case thieves try to break in and take what belongs to him.
Verse 37b says: “Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.” Upon his return, the master would reward their watchfulness and their faithfulness in obedience, for he himself would gird up his wedding garments and would prepare a supper for them.
Verses 38-40 continues: “And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants, but know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Luke 12:35-40).
I have to ask you: Do you know the Lord Jesus? You need to – don’t put it off! Be aware, there is a thief who infiltrates our minds to divert us from the things of God. He will use every form of deception he can to stop us from knowing and obeying God’s word. His name is Satan and he sends his demons to rob, kill and destroy those that Jesus died for.
Do you know when Jesus is coming back? No one knows the day or the hour only the Father in heaven. Jesus did however give us many signs to look for before His coming and these signs are all coming together in our time today.
Are you girded and ready for warfare in doing God’s work? Men, in Bible times would tuck the skirts of their long robes into their belt so that they would be ready for serious action and not be impeded by their clothing.
Are you prepared? If Jesus was to come at any moment, would you be involved in God’s kingdom business? Is your life focused on doing things that would please Him?
Are you just sitting, watching and waiting for the return of the Lord? We need to keep ourselves actively informed of what is going on in the world to-day, especially events concerning the nation of Israel. Iran’s president has openly said that Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth. Iran’s nuclear arsenal is ready, and could impact the world as never before imagined! This is just one example of what is happening in our life time. Satan knows his time is short and is stirring up opposition in the world to everything that is precious to God. By being aware of current events and prophecies in the Bible, we will develop a sense of “urgency” about the lateness of the hour. Then, we will be focused on God’s priorities and things of a temporal nature will not distract us!
People want to know what they need to be doing in order to prepare for Jesus’ return. They begin to study the Book of Revelation, but this is a very difficult book and it does not really tell us what we need to be doing now!
Jesus has already told us what we need to be doing! We are to be actively involved in God’s Kingdom business! In some of the parables we have covered so far, He wants us to care for the poor, the hungry, the homeless and the depressed. I suppose I have gone on and on about the homeless in this book, because the homeless are extremely needy and damaged. I have a special empathy for them because I went through what they are going through. I had parents who loved me but I was far too ashamed of my addictive lifestyle that I couldn’t bring myself to go home. I hope that one person who buys this book might actually go, make a friend of the homeless, feed and clothe them and make them feel special.
To understand the Bible it’s important to know a few things. Whilst our day starts at midnight and ends at midnight, the first hour of the Jewish day starts in the morning: our time 6.00am.
The evening and night was divided into watch periods. The first watch was called the “Evening watch” - it went from 6.00pm – 9.00pm (Our time)
The second watch was called the “Midnight watch” - it went from 9.00pm to midnight.
The third watch was called the “Cockcrow watch” - between midnight to 3.00am.
The forth watch was the “Morning watch” - 3.00am –6.00am – the start of a new day!
“Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning.” Mark 13:35. (Does this mean Jesus won’t come during the day hours? Who knows?) Just be ready!
If your master was away at a wedding and he was coming home to get ready for bed. He would want to know that his house was being looked after and that no one could break in. He would want to be sure that everything was in order. The return of Jesus has been likened to a thief coming in the night. Meaning – thieves come when we least expect it?
Through the course of these parables, we have come to realize that there is a lot that we can do. We can minister in the gifts that God has given us. We can fully utilize our money, time and resources to further the Kingdom of God. We are not be stagnant or be standing in one place. We are not to be on the wide path leading to destruction like all the unbelievers. Instead, we are to be on the narrow path going against the ways of the world. (See Matthew 7:13-14) We can be shining our light in our community. We can be a house on a hill and a bright shining light to everyone we meet. It’s time for the introverts to swallow their pride and to be bold for Jesus! You can have confidence in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. It says in 1 Corinthians 2:16 that we have the mind of Christ. We can therefore put on the mind of Christ and break free of any barriers or apathy that keeps us silent.
Watching is essentially doing the will of the Father. Many people are interested in the last days and listen to teaching on the Book of Revelation to know future events. All I know is that Jesus said to live and preach the Gospel! Even in the book of Revelation, it says the angel sounded the trumpet and the Gospel of the Lord went out to all the nations. At that time the angels of God will be very active on earth.
From the time of Abraham to the time of the death of Christ, God’s priority had been towards the salvation of the Jewish people. They were the ones that he originally covenanted with to be His people and He would be their God. Jesus knew a new era was to begin. At the Last Supper before His death, He said a New Covenant would be in force by His blood. A covenant of Grace would begin where “everybody” would be called to be part of God’s Kingdom, not just the Jewish people!
Two thousand years have passed since then and it is only been since May 1948 when the Nation of Israel came into being that many Jews have begun to recognize the new age of grace. The Jewish people not saved before the Rapture, will have a major role to play on earth, because great numbers of them will come to salvation during a terrible time of tribulation. They will be among the many, many people who will be martyred for their faith because they will refuse to follow the Antichrist.
A friend of mine, Yianni, had a vision. He saw a couple of very long tables in Heaven. The tables went off into eternity for miles and miles. He said everyone was seated at these tables and each person had on their hands some kind of gold rope. Fruit and other food ran continuously down the centre sections of the tables. Jesus came along the table and was personally and lovingly serving each person at the table.
Months before my grandma came to the Lord; my mother had a dream about seeing a white folded “place card” standing up with her mother’s name boldly written in a beautiful font – like perfect handwriting. She woke up and made a card just like she had seen. A few weeks later, she spoke to a prophet friend at a wedding and he said “It looks like Jesus has got your mother’s place card all ready for the Wedding Supper of the Lamb.” She was so excited because in her heart she had made the same conclusion.
At this extra special feast, the Master, our Lord Jesus Christ, will be waiting on His bride, who will be clothed in beautiful white wedding garments personally selected by the Groom. This holy bride is made up of tens of millions of men, women, boys and girls, aborted babies, people with intellectual handicaps, the innocent ones, people of every race, color and culture from the time of Adam! Can you imagine the scene? Just as well it is Jesus who is hosting this spectacular event. Otherwise, it would take years to be served.
This event will occur in heaven, after the Rapture of the church. The Lord Jesus Christ is serving food to those He loves. This parable speaks prophetically about that event. Will you be at that table? When Jesus brings home the people that were busy doing His will, He is going to wait tables on them!
Are you going to be at that table? Have you made your decision for Christ yet? If you have made your decision for Him, I will see you there!
Don’t look for an overweight person as seen on my videos! I will have my new slim body then because at the Rapture everyone will receive a glorified “perfect” body which is able to live in the atmosphere of heaven and be able to pass through things at will and travel in the blink of an eye. We will still be able to recognize our loved ones but they will look the best they have ever looked. (No one will need Jenny Craig or Botox in heaven!) I think it’s wonderful that we will still enjoy eating great food! What a day that will be!
