The Parable of The Laborers in the Vineyard Made Simple

(Matthew 20:1-16)

Before we proceed, allow me to say that for me, doing the work of the Lord is the most fulfilling task one can do. Walking in the joy, peace and will of the Lord is a wonderful thing. To experience His presence everyday is something that you cannot buy with precious stones, silver or gold. It is so much fun sitting down and sharing these things on video and then getting them transcribed into a book.

Everyone knows the familiar parable of the vineyard. But for the sake of our study, let's just recap it.

In a gist, it says that the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers to work in his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them to his vineyard. Let's just say that a denarius is worth $160 today for a day’s work. He went out in the third hour, which is 9 AM in the morning. Let us imagine that he saw me standing idle in the marketplace. Then he said, “You go out and work for me too.” So I went to work.

On the sixth hour, 12 noon, he went out again. He also did the same at the ninth hour, that's 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Both times, he invited laborers to work in his field. At 5 o’clock in the afternoon, at the eleventh hour, he went out again and he said to some guys "What are you still doing standing here?" “No one hired us.” He said to them "You also go into the vineyard and do whatever is right and you will receive.”

8 “So when the evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ 9 And when those who came who were hired about the eleventh hour, each received a denarius. 10 But when the first came, they suppose they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. 11 When they received it, they complained against the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ 13But he answered to one of them, ‘Friend, I’m doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go in your way. I wish to give this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am so good?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”(Matthew 20)

Let's just say these people are working in a vineyard. They collect fruits, cut dead branches off the vines, prune the dead wood – practically just going through the vineyard and doing what is necessary for the vines and their fruits.

But whatever it was, it's very hot and sweaty. Perhaps it was okay working at 6 o'clock in the morning. But come 9 o’clock in the morning, it starts getting hot and 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3. You know, if you ever go to the beach between 11 and 2 o'clock in the afternoon, you can get sunburned in fifteen minutes. So these guys have worked hard all day. Then they saw people arriving in the eleventh hour and they paid those guys in the 11th hour, a denarius.

And then what happened? When it got to them who’d worked the whole day, they only got the same amount. This made them really angry; according to them they should be getting eleven times that amount. But they already agreed for a day’s worth, nevertheless to them, it was just so unfair! It was so unfair that they've worked all day and these guys have worked an hour.

This is a parable where the Christians can get angry at God. This is Jesus telling a parable about how people get angry with the land owner. So how do we? What's the practical application of this parable today? Well, let's just have a look at it in two ways. Let's look at it prophetically. In the last days there is going to be a massive harvest.

I’ve heard a prophecy from several sources - a person from Western Australia, from Rick Joyner in America, from another well known prophet and the Lord has told me personally - that much of the very last move of God is going to be done by unknown people, people with no reputation. They come from nowhere. They just rise to massive ministries and do a whole lot of great work. And everyone in the ministry will be saying, “Who are these guys? Where did they come from?”

These guys will move so fast that they won't even have a reputation. People won't even know their names. They won't have time to build massive ministries in twenty years; they'll appear right in the last hour and do tremendous signs and wonders, and reap a huge part of the harvest. Well, prophetically speaking, these are the people who were hired in the last hour. It seems that many of these people come into the kingdom. They’ll only be saved three months and then they will be ministering in signs and wonders.

These ministers will just be supernaturally touched and then go out and touch other people. And the people who've been in ministry for twenty years will see someone doing five times the amount of ministry and saving five times the amount of people. And yet, they’ve only been on the scene for one year and the others have been ministering for twenty years through a hard slog of a really hard world of media, movies, film, TV, music, and papers; everything against them.

You may have been ministering with everything against the Christian Church and you've been slogging through it for twenty years, waiting for this great outpouring of the Lord in the last days where multitudes get saved, and the Holy Spirit comes with power. And when the big move comes, you're not the hero of the day; some unknown who just became a Christian a year ago is getting all the glory.

That is one interpretation of the parable and it's going happen. Jesus was speaking prophetically. He was also speaking to the Jews in that day saying the Christian Church and its followers were going to take off, spread Christianity all through the world and were going to be known as the great achievers. And they haven't been around for thousands of years like the Jews; they're the new kids on the block who had been hired in the last hour. They were going take the Christian faith to the whole known world in a very short time. And they did. They covered the whole world in a very short time, the holy church. So that was a parable for back then and it has already been fulfilled.

This is a parable for the listener or reader; it's a parable for you. How is it a parable for you? Well, I've mentioned it twice, maybe three times; that only ten percent of American Christians knew their spiritual gifts.

Now, I've got spiritual gifts. I've got the spiritual gift of encouragement, word of knowledge, prophecy, wisdom, teaching and evangelism. And I'm doing all of those things at the moment. All of those gifts are being fully exercised to my full potential.

Now, the Christians in America should know what they’re talented to do in the kingdom of God; but survey reveals that only ten percent, only one in ten Christians in the United States know what they're born to do for God.

This means that ninety percent of Christians in the US are living unfulfilled lives. Then out of the ten percent who know what their spiritual gifts are, only ten percent have the opportunity to minister using their gifts. So, only one percent of the church is ministering through their spiritual gifts!

There is a lot of talent out there. Ninety nine percent of the Body of Christ is not moving in what God has gifted them to do. There's a lot of room for a lot of late bloomers.

So, what's the application? You need to find out what your spiritual gifts are. You need to do a spiritual gifts test. You need to get in touch with me and my ministry and ask me how to encourage you to start to move in your spiritual gifts.

Every one of you reading this can be one of these eleventh hour workers. You can come in. There's still time. While you've still got breath, you still got time. You've got dreams. You've got desires. You've got un-birthed talents rising up within you. Listen, read this whole book, watch these videos, get in touch with me. Do whatever you need to do. Become one of those last days’ workers. The church will not be jealous of you. But you can be one of those last people that become first in the parades of heaven.

For many years, God has been using me to give people personal prophecies. For four years now, I have operated a web site offering free personal prophecy helped by a team of ten prophetic people. During this time I have made thousands of prophecies, and you could say that I cut my prophetic teeth on those virtual pages. I have recently given away that free personal prophecy web site, but I am still available to offer a prophecy to any person who is willing to make a donation to help disburse the expenses of my continuing ministry. Please feel free to go to my video page to see for yourself the quality of my prophetic words over important people in ministry and regular Christians, as well as read the feedback I have received. When you feel satisfied that you would like a video prophecy for yourself, trust the Lord to guide you as to how much you are willing to donate to my ministry, then press the Paypal button below to fill out your details. Please note there is a section where not only can you write your details but also ask any specific questions you might have for the Lord. I sincerely look forward to ministering to you personally
