The Parable of the Growing Seed Made Simple

(Mark 4:26-29)

The parable of the Growing Seed in Mark 4: 26 to 29 reads:

And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

I heard Andrew Wommack teach on this principle and he shared an illustration, which was interesting and bears repeating here. There was a man who had come to his Bible College who never had a job in his life. He was a simple, uneducated man, who had a lot of struggles understanding English and learning or comprehending things. But he had a definite call of God in his life.

This man went to the Bible College to learn for a time. Because he never earned an income, he lived his entire life on welfare or something. One day, he went to Andrew with plans to renovate a city building which was going to cost $3 million. He had some grand plans of making apartments and leasing them back to the government with assured rents at a profit. He told Andrew that he felt it was what he was called to do.

Andrew told him that it all looked good on paper and seemed as though it would work. The minister carefully explained to him that he had never held down a job in his life. He didn’t know what it was like to work, let alone, become a manager of such a large project. He never had a huge amount of money in his hand, how can he handle large sums of money for this project? He has never gone to work and had never managed other people. Andrew shared with him that although the plan was a good one, it wasn't God's will for him to do. Andrew finished off the story by saying that the man is now working as a manager at a service station and is still going on with God's teaching.

This is what the parable of the seed really means. It means that a seed bears fruit after its own. A person who has never worked, never handled large sums of money and never managed other people can not go on to deliver a project that needs superior skills. Andrew says that we only get trusted by God with big projects when we have been faithful with similar medium ones.

Let's take a look at this parable. “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.” (Mark 4:26-27)

Certain ministries teach that the Word of God is a seed. And when you give money towards a ministry that teaches Christians and evangelizes the lost, it is a process of sowing. The money that you give is actually seed that you're sowing. It's been equated to seed because the money is used to spread the gospel. Therefore, the person that gives sows seed. Now, this is true. When Paul was having disputes with the apostles as to who was greater, he said that some sow, some water it; but God gives the increase (I Corinthians 3:6).

The Word of God is seed whether you know it or not. We know that God is love; so when love is sung about in the right way, it can touch people's hearts and bring healing to their lives. There is a song about tears in heaven, for instance. Would we cry tears in heaven? There is another song that says “When I'm in heaven will you remember me there?” Certain songs that mention Biblical things sow seed in the hearts of people. It's not up to us to understand how God brings the harvest and grow that seed.

I, for instance, have been writing articles for four years. These are published on an article database site and are found on Google searches. So, I initially started writing articles to get a personal prophecy website high up on Google searches. This web blog that I was subscribed to told me how I could get my website better recognized in search engines. It said a new way of getting a site recognized is to write a number of articles with a URL at the bottom linking to your website. They said if you'd write enough articles, your website would slowly climb in the rankings and be found on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing.

So I initially started the articles, not so much to teach people Christian things, but to increase the position of my ministry website. What happened though when I started to write ten or twenty articles about my Christian faith, I really enjoyed expressing myself. I have a database that tells how many people read the articles, gave comments and stars. Soon I got carried away with a love for writing.
I’ve been doing that consistently for four years now. As the inspiration come to me, I write articles of various lengths. The earlier ones were quite longer and the later ones were shorter. And but that’s all seed. That's all about the Gospel. That's all Biblical truth getting taught to people.

It’s not up to us to wonder how God multiplies that seed. The fact of the matter is that if you sow seed in good ground, the seed will sprout and grow a crop that will rise out of the ground. First, the blade will come; then the head; then the full grain. When the wheat has ripened, then it’s time to harvest.

For non-Christians, the harvest is the time when they actually make a decision for Christ. Everyone who has shared the Gospel to a person, either by words or actions showed a practical demonstration of Jesus Christ to that person. All of those things contribute to the ripening the crop until it was time to harvest; when the person finally decided to give his life to Jesus Christ.

Another seed is this truth: “You can overcome any illness if you believe in the risen power of the resurrection and salvation.” When you get enough of that teaching into you and you are taught in the right principles of healing and your divine rights through the blood of Jesus Christ, healing comes to your body. Many can’t say that the harvest has come straight away but the seed gets sown and it slowly matures.

It comes to a point where harvest and healing manifest in your body. Or maybe someone prayed for you in a church meeting and you got healed. It is happening in America, in Australia and all over the world - people have been healed of blindness, deafness, quadriplegia and other life threatening diseases - through faith in God. So, that’s the seed than can be planted, watered, nurtured and harvested for healing.

Anything can manifest with enough of the right Word of God, and the right nourishment by the Holy Spirit of God. God can accomplish anything.

We go to sleep as it were in the parable and wake up and see the thing that has sprouted and we wonder, “How did that happen? How did that person go from being such a bad sinner, such angry, swearing, rebellious, hypocritical person into such a loving and compassionate person, full of mercy? What happened there?” And that’s just the seed of God. It is the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, the work of His holy angels and His saints, the body of Christ, nourishing a person from a place of despair to a place of full healing and full nourishment in the proper things of God. They go from a place of tragedy to a point of blessing, where their attitudes, their behaviors, their demons and everything have been changed.

So, I hope my little teaching here has given some explanation for you about how the seed principle works.

For many years, God has been using me to give people personal prophecies. For four years now, I have operated a web site offering free personal prophecy helped by a team of ten prophetic people. During this time I have made thousands of prophecies, and you could say that I cut my prophetic teeth on those virtual pages. I have recently given away that free personal prophecy web site, but I am still available to offer a prophecy to any person who is willing to make a donation to help disburse the expenses of my continuing ministry. Please feel free to go to my video page to see for yourself the quality of my prophetic words over important people in ministry and regular Christians, as well as read the feedback I have received. When you feel satisfied that you would like a video prophecy for yourself, trust the Lord to guide you as to how much you are willing to donate to my ministry, then press the Paypal button below to fill out your details. Please note there is a section where not only can you write your details but also ask any specific questions you might have for the Lord. I sincerely look forward to ministering to you personally
